Asia Youngman is an Indigenous (Cree-Métis) director and screenwriter. Working in scripted and documentary, she has directed projects for Netflix, ESPN, Lifetime, PBS, History Channel, CBC, Bell Media, TVO, APTN and Telus. Most recently, Asia was the second unit director on an upcoming episode of Netflix’s acclaimed anthology series BLACK MIRROR (2025). Additionally, she co-directed and executive produced the “30 for 30” documentary I’M JUST HERE FOR THE RIOT (2023) now streaming on ESPN+. Her latest short film DELTA DAWN (2024) premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival and had its US Premiere at DOC NYC. Some of her previous award-winning short films include N’XAXAITKW (2022) and THIS INK RUNS DEEP (2019) which both premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
On the development front, Asia is co-creating an original series alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions. She is also writing her first feature narrative UNTIL IT’S TIME TO GO which was selected for the 2024 TIFF Writers’ Studio. Named as one of Playback’s “10 to Watch”, Asia is an alumni of the CHANEL Women Creators’ Network, TIFF Filmmaker Lab, TIFF Talent Accelerator, Canadian Academy Directors Program for Women and Berlinale’s DocSalon Toolbox Programme. She is a member of the Directors Guild of Canada and the Writers Guild of Canada.
Asia is represented by The Gersh Agency in Los Angeles and Pacific Artists Management in Vancouver. Additionally, she is the owner of Visceral Village Productions which she founded in 2019.
